Stacy Hubbard, LMFT
Professional Couples Therapy in Portland, Or.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with advanced training in Couples Therapy. My practice is currently open to couples, and I use the Gottman method in my work (see 'What I do' link for more information on this method). I complete a full initial assessment of your strengths as a couple as well as targeting the areas that need improvement. With this assessment we have the information we need to set a course for treatment. I use practical exercises and directives in session, as well as weekly assignments that I give clients to work on between sessions. I believe that the clients should have a clear sense of the direction of their therapy, and that they should be aware of and have input on their treatment goals. I keep a close eye on where couples are in terms of goal accomplishment, so that therapy has a course and there is an endpoint in mind from the very beginning.
My education is from Portland State University, where I obtained my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am currently working on certification as a Gottman certified therapist. I have worked in the field of counseling for the past 10 years, in the capacity of a case worker, recreation therapist, adventure guide and mediator. I am now lucky enough to be a practicing therapist working solely with couples in my private practice. I love the chance to help couples improve their relationships and learn to function more as a team. I feel that I can help couples work on their most challenging and long standing issues, which is often a huge relief to couples who have had the same fight about the same issue over and over again.
