Stacy Hubbard, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Certified Gottman Therapist, and Gottman Master Trainer
Professional Couples and Individual Therapy
“Intensive therapy” is also referred to as “marathon therapy,” and its function is to augment and deepen the connection between you and your partner.
Usually intensive therapy encompasses two full days, six or seven hours per day, with shorter follow-up sessions afterward as needed. Marathon therapy sessions were designed for people who must travel to be seen by a Gottman clinician, and for professional clients who have difficulty scheduling weekly sessions into their lives. Because there are so few Certified Gottman Therapists in some parts of the country, I offer these intensive marathon therapy sessions that last for several consecutive days.
Prior to coming in, you both will separately complete the Gottman assessment on line through the relationship check up website. This assessment will give me a lot of very helpful information about the current status of your relationship as well as family history, etc. I will also conduct a screening call to ensure that this is the right format and that there are no major co-morbidities that may hamper the process. I may need to conduct a brief interview over the phone and review your questionnaire answers prior to the session.
The following criteria would preclude a couple from doing a marathon session as they would need more intensive private therapy and/or individual therapy or intervention:
If there is active alcohol and/or drug addiction that is not being addressed by a recovery program.
If there is serious violence in your relationship, threats by one or both partners that serious violence might occur, or fear of serious violence.
If either partner currently has an untreated major mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar, or dissociative identity disorder.)
If there is an undisclosed, or current affair that either partner is unwilling to give up
If either partner is currently experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts, or has a history of serious suicide attempts or harm to others.
The rate for Marathon Sessions is my normal hourly rate ($125) times the amount of hours we decide on ahead of time. You will be asked to pay in full prior to attending scheduled sessions. There is a 2 week cancellation policy (minus a $50 administrative fee). If you cancel less than 2 weeks ahead your credit will be saved for use at a future date. Marathon sessions require me to block out significant periods of time, so it is imperative that the appointment is kept and that you are committed to the process. I look forward to talking with you about how this process might benefit your relationship.
